A process and an apparatus for applying a polymeric enclosure to surfaces of articles (5) to provide protection against environmental influences, corrosion or mechanical stressing of the surfaces, is described. The process is essentially a continuous process, involving extruding a semi-finished polymeric part (7) in the form of a strip or tube which is slit or split or in the form of two strips, while it is in its deformable state, positioning the article (5) to be enclosed in the extrusion path of the semi-finished part and then using moulding presses (2a, 2b) to urge the semi-finished part around the article.
