The method is esp. applicable to a rotary or linear measuring pick-up with a parallel digital signal as measurement signal. The latter (M) is compared with an incremental sum (sigma) produced in the interface. An incremental signal (A/B) for the output is produced from the comparison corresp. to the signal of an incremental pick-up for negative, positive or no change. The incremental sum for the next process cycle is actualised. The interface can be hardware, software or a selected combination. USE/ADVANTAGE - Absolute rotary pick-up with gray code disc and associated photodiode array. Extendable to processing system, e.g. MPS, NC or CNC, replacing physical zero crossing by virtual one.
