A method and a machine for the production of metal coin blanks with an insert. This machine comprises means (4) for supplying metal coin blanks (1) comprising a single central hole (6), means (8) for delivering a metal insert (2) of suitable size having different ferromagnetic characteristics into each hole (6), and means (10) for securing the inserts (2) delivered into the hole (6) to the blank (1), wherein the metal insert consists of an essentially spherical element, such as a ball, the said hole (6) being essentially cylindrical and the securing means (10) comprise crushing means (70, 72) for crushing the essentially spherical element so that it substantially completely fills the volume of the hole (6) in the blank (1). The invention permits very high rates of production of coin blanks with an insert. IMAGE
