The invention relates to derivatives of the carboxymethylcellulose, in which all the groups, or a part of these groups are replaced by groups of general formula (br / (see appended drawing in bopi) & br / to the condition that each of the anhydroglucose unit of the molecule polymer contains on average at least 0,1 quaternary ammonium group. / p & & p & the invention also relates to a process for the preparation of derivatives of the carboxymethylcellulose and their use in cosmetic preparations, in particular for the care of the hair.
