The invention relates to a product which permits the stopping of leaks from water dams in a very short time, without emptying, without special apparatus and by using a low concentration. It consists of a mixture of two high molecular weight polyacrylamides, namely a flocculant polyacrylamide which after hydration exhibits sticky and gelling properties and a water-retaining crosslinked polyacrylamide which after hydration has the appearance of coarse particles of the consistency of foam rubber. The hydration at the bottom of the dam causes the formation of a continuous layer of gel (flocculant polyacrylamide) in which are embedded particles of water-retaining polyacrylamide, thus causing the stopping (sealing). The product according to the invention is particularly intended for stopping leaks from hillside dams, dykes, lagoons and barrages.
