Method for monitoring the state of saturation of the filtering mass of activated carbon (4) of a filtration device, characterised in that two conducting electrodes (10) are placed in contact with this mass, between which electrodes an A.C. potential difference is applied, the two electrodes being designed and situated so that the electric field thus applied extends to all of the activated mass, and in that the variation of the resistive part R of the impedance Z = R+j(L omega -1/C omega ) of the circuit constituted by the activated filtering mass and the conducting electrodes is measured.
