Anti-theft device for identifying and indelibly marking a surface, and more particularly the casings of office, computer and electronic equipment. It consists of a set of layers of coloured ink (4) protected by a layer of transparent polycarbonate (3). The ink (4) makes it possible to indicate the name (or the logo) (1) of the owners of the appliances, as well as a serial number etched by laser (2). This plate is bonded with the aid of a high-performance glue (5) onto the casings of the appliances to be marked (6). In the event of this plate being torn from its support (6) by persons of ill will, only the upper layer of transparent polycarbonate (3) would come off, leaving the layers of ink deeply embedded into the material of the support (6). This device is intended essentially to discourage theft of equipment, to block the use of this equipment individually or its resale on the second-hand equipment market. IMAGE
