Sols or gels of mixed organic and inorganic polymers consisting of a network of a crosslinked metaloxopolymer derived especially from an alkoxide of a metal M, the atoms of metal M being chemically bonded to an organic polymer derived from an ethylenic monomer which is a ligand for the said alkoxide. The are prepared by complexing the said alkoxide with monomeric ligand which is stable to hydrolysis and polymerises rapidly, followed by inorganic polycondensation - hydrolysis and organic polycondensation. Use as filled polymeric materials with improved properties or as fillers for polymers.
