Keg-filling procedure for carbonated liquid, e.g. beer - uses circuit with isolator and separator between reservoir and keg, and having pressurised fluid such as steam in keg which is replaced by CO2 as beer enters
The procedure consists of connecting the keg bung and the upper end (3) of the reservoir (1) by a circuit (11,20) incorporating an isolator (21), pressurising the keg with a fluid contained in the section (11) of the circuit adjacent to it, connecting the two sections (11,20) of the circuit and admitting the carbonated liquid, e.g. beer, into the keg. Once the key is full an isolating valve is closed by the back-pressure of liquid from it, and the circuit is then filled with gas used to pressurise the reservoir (1). The fluid used to pressurise the keg (6) can be steam used to sterilise it, cooling the steam between the keg and isolator, while CO2 can be used to pressurise the reservoir. As the key is filled a proportion of the CO2 contained in the liquid is released, progressively replacing the steam, which goes to a separator (24). ADVANTAGE - Improved key filling without loss of quality in liquid, e.g. beer.
