The invention relates to a method for treating and upgrading animal waste, such as liquid manure, characterised in that it comprises the steps consisting in: - receiving (1) the said waste in a storage tank; - flocculating (2) essentially the fermentable material contained in the said waste; - separating (3) the flocculated essentially fermentable materials from the essentially unfermentable materials so as to obtain an essentially organic solid S1 and waste water E1; - precipitating (4) the nitrates and the phosphates contained in the said waste water E1 in the form of magnesium ammonium phosphate so as to obtain an essentially inorganic solid S2 and weakly loaded waste water E2; - separating (5) the said precipitated essentially inorganic solid S2 from the weakly loaded waste water E2.
