The water heater has a cylindrical tank (2), an electric heating element (3) in the form of a rod, a thermostat having a thermal sensor (4) in a tube immersed in the water in the tank, and a controller relating electric supply to water temperature. The tank is double walled, with the space between filled by a thermally insulating material. The element and thermostat are mounted transversely through a hole in the wall of the cylinder. The outer part of the thermostat is placed in a recess formed in the insulation, and the thermostat protected by an asymmetrical cover (18). ADVANTAGE - Reduces space taken by controls and their cover to allow larger boiler to fit into standard 600 mm cabinet.
