The device consists of a mattress (10) formed by a sealed envelope (18) filled with a quantity of polystyrene or other balls. The envelope has at least one opening, selectively closed by a valve (16). A number of carrying handles (12) are attached to the periphery of the lower panel of the envelope. The carrying handles may be attached to a support sheet (14) whose upper face is connected to the lower face of the envelope's lower panel. The support sheet is larger than the envelope in area, in order to leave a peripheral strip (32), to which loops (38) are attached to form the carrying handles. USE/ADVANTAGE - Ease of handling and positioning, for immobilising parts of body etc. by solidifying mattress using suction.
