Appts. for purificn. of air, partic. air polluted by tobacco smoke or dust particles, consists of (a) means (240) of detecting the presence of polluted air; (b) means of producing air movement, e.g. fan (11), controlled from the detector; and (c) means (21,22,25,26) of purifying air across which air travels. The means of treatment comprises a filter (21) retaining dust particles, fumes and other noxious substances, a deodoriser (22) which perfumes the air, and an ioniser (12) producing positive ions. An ashtray (CE) is incorporated to collect cigarette butts. The unit can be installed in household objects such as lampshades or ornaments. An installation comprising several units is controlled via a series of detectors driving the units individually or collectively. USE/ADVANTAGE - Removal of fumes and dust particles in both domestic and public areas. Compact, simple and economical diffusion and treatment unit. Can be incorporated in decorative or functional uinits such as lampshades. Allows smokers and non smokers to be in close proximity without inconvenience.
