Polymers with poly:vinyl sequences having urea di:thiocarbamate terminal gps. - made by condensing vinyl polymers with iso:cyanato di:thiocarbamate terminal gps. with di:- or poly:functional reactants
Polymers contg. units (Ia), (Ib) or (Ic) are new: where A = alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl, arylalkyl or alkylaryl gp. or polyoxyalkylene or polyester sequences; D = alkylene, cycloalkylene, arylene, alkylarylene or arylalkylene gps. which may include a heteroatom such as N or O; G is the hydrocarbon skeleton, opt. carrying substituents such as halogen atoms, of an organic cpd. carrying at least two amine, epoxy, carboxylic acid or carboxylic anhydride functions; E is chosen from gps. (I) and (II) F = a direct bond or -NH-; R1, R2, R3 and R4 = H, alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl, arylalkyl or alkylaryl which may op. carry substituents, or R1 together with one of R2 and R3 may complete an aliphatic or aromatic ring; and Pv is a polymer sequence derived from at least one vinyl monomer. USE/ADVANTAGE - The polymers are obtd. from isocyanate-terminated vinyl polymers made using functional thiuram disulphide iniferters (cpds. serving the triple function of initiator, chain transfer agent and terminating agent) for the radical polymerisation of vinyl monomers.
