Hardenable fluorinated copolymer contg. copolymerisatin residues of at least one fluorinated monomer and at least one hydroxylated vinyl ether and/or at least one hydroxylated allyl ether, to which is grafted, by way of the residue of at least one OH function of the ether, the residue of a copolymerisation prod. of (a) a cpd. of formula (I) (in which R1 is H or Me, R2 is 1-5C alkyl, 5-6C cycloalkyl or 2-6C 2-hydroxyalkyl gp., and R3 is 1-6C alkyl or 5-6C cycloalkyl), with (b) at least one non-functional acrylic monomer and at least one monomer carrying carboxylic and/or sulphonic functions in acid or salt form. USE/ADVANTAGE - The copolymers are esp. useful in the prodn. of paints and lacquers. As binders in aq. dispersion paints, the copolymers give aq. dispersions with excellent stability. When used as binders in solvent-based paints, the copolymers give pigment dispersions with excellent stability. The copolymers can be hardened by way of the OH gps. remaining after grafting of the non-fluorinated copolymer to the fluorinated copolymer to give paint films with good mechanical properties, high chemical and weather resistance and easy maintenance.
