Optical wideband network for telecommunication subscribers - has command and connector network communicating to subscriber units via optical links by interrogation and time division multiplexing
The central unit (EX) has a command unit (CU) which controls a connector network (CN) and photonic switches (ETE0...ETE31). The photonic switches connect the digital signals from the appropriate units through the optical distribution network (DN), at different wavelengths (La,Lb). The optical link connects to the local subscribers (CPN0...CPN255). In operation, the central unit interrogates each subscriber to determine whether messages are to be passed across that channel. The command unit then optimises the photonic switching response to time multiplex the signals to be passed across the same wavelength but at different periods of time. ADVANTAGE- Allows more flexible allocation of photonic switch passband to subscriber installation.
