AN UNDERWATER PENETRATION PROJECTILE HAVING A DETONATION MECHANISM

An underwater penetration projectile (11) which can be used against naval targets (18) has an electrical detonation mechanism (24) designed for detonating the effective charge (23) at an optimisedly predetermined height (x) after penetration into the structure of a target (18.1, 18.2) or respectively after emerging from the surface (14) of the water. The instant (te, ta) of penetration or respectively emergence is ascertained from an observation of the hydrodynamic pressure (p(t)), measured on board the projectile (11). This rises or collapses suddenly and the value (pe, pa), measured immediately therebefore, is a measure of the penetration or exit velocity (ve, va) and thus a measure of the delay time (tx) before initiating detonation of the effective charge (23) at the desired height (x).
