PURPOSE: To produce a cellular crosslinked poly(dicyclopentadiene) with uniform structure by using a methathesis-catalyst system. ;CONSTITUTION: A reactant solution containing an alkyl aluminum halide activator of a metathesis-catalyst system is mixed with a reactant solution containing the catalyst of the metathesis-catalyst system, the mixture is heated at about 30-80°C to prepare a crosslinked thermosetting polymer having cyclopentadiene units. At least one of the reactant solutions contains dicyclopentadiene and a blowing agent, and an alkylaluminum halide activator is a mixture of a dialkylaluminum iodide, an alkylaluminum diiodide, or a trialkylaluminum compound with elemental iodine.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1993,JPO
