PURPOSE:To measure the average temp. and average humidity between long distances by measuring radio waves, the phase difference of the optical modulating waves synchronized therewith, the time when 3 kinds of surges added with acoustic waves move back and forth between two points and the difference thereof. CONSTITUTION:The pulse radio waves are radiated 23 to a reflecting plate or transponder 4 at the reflection point B of the prescribed distance from a measurement point A. The distance between the two points A and B is calculated from the time difference between the rediated waves and reflected waves by a 2nd time interval counter (TLC) 29. The pulse sound waves are radiated from an acoustic wave interferometer 13 and the forward and backward travel time of the acoustic waves is calculated by the 1st TIC 17. The average temp. is calculated by the previously determined distance between points A and B and the total atm. pressure and the average steam pressure. The laser beam modulated 31 by the same electric signal as the radiated radio waves in then radiated and the reflected light at the point B is photoelectrically converted 33 and is introduced to the 4th TIC 36. This signal is compared with the output of a 2nd frequency converting section 27 and the quantity of the steam between the two points A and B is calculated from the detected phase difference and the average humidity is calculated by using the previously determined average temp. The average temp. and average humidity of the long distances are measured in this way.
