PURPOSE:To obtain a small-sized electrode for detecting an electrochemical optical characteristic easy to handle, by integrating a light pervious acting electrode, an opposed electrode and an optical fiber while integrally forming the acting electrode to the light incident surface of the optical fiber. CONSTITUTION:A light pervious acting electrode 1, an opposed electrode 3 and an optical fiber 4 are integrated and the acting electrode 2 is formed to the light incident surface of the optical fiber 4. The light emitting surface (on the side opposite to the electrode 2) of the fiber 4 is connected to a detection part and the electrodes 2, 3 are connected to a voltage pulse generator through conductive junction points 6 by lead wires 5. The acting electrode 2 is deposited by the vapor deposition of ITO or Pt and masking is applied to make it possible to simultaneously apply the opposed electrode 3. The thickness of the electrode 2 is set to about 100-300Angstrom . Stepwise pulse voltage is applied between the electrodes 2, 3 and electrochemical light emission is formed in a solution to be examined and light is guided to the detection part and photoelectrically converted to perform measurement.
