PURPOSE: To obtain antimony trioxide improved in both purity and dispersibility at low cost, by dissolving in an alcohol a fraction obtained by vacuum distillation of a specified solution of crude antimony trioxide followed by adding water to the resultant alcoholic solution and then conducting solid-liquid separation and then by bringing the resultant solid into contact with an alkali to carry out a further solid-liquid separation. ;CONSTITUTION: Firstly, a liquid A is obtained in the 1st process where crude antimony trioxide is dissolved with hydrochloric acid and a solid-liquid separation is conducted. Second, a high-temperature fraction B is obtained in the 2nd process where a low- temperature fraction (100°C) is removed from the liquid A followed by vacuum distillation at ≥100°C. Third, a solid C such as antimony oxychloride is obtained in the 3rd process where the component B is dissolved in an alcohol followed by adding water to the resultant alcoholic solution to effect hydrolyzing the component B followed by carrying out a solid-liquid separation. Finally, the objective high-purity antimony trioxide ≤0.005 counts/cm2.hr in α-ray radiation and ≤10ppm in impurity content is obtained through the 4th process where the component C is brought into contact with an alkali such as ammonia water to form antimony trioxide followed by conducting a solid-liquid separation.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1994,JPO&Japio
