PURPOSE:To exactly determine the timing for starting tapping for decreasing the number of tapping by opening the tap hole when the luminance of the raceway part behind tuyeres of a blast furnace measured through the tuyeres attains or exceeds a reference luminance increment. CONSTITUTION:The luminance in the raceway part behind the tuyeres is measured through =1 piece of the tuyere in the blast furnace operation. The tap hole is opened when the measured luminance increases after the stop of the previous tapping and attains or exceeds the reference luminance increment DELTATS. The above-mentioned reference luminance increment DELTATS is preferably set in the range of the inequality: DELTATS=DELTATmax-d(DELTAT)/dt2.DELTAt2 (where DELTATmax: the luminance of the permissible upper limit, d(DELTAT)/dT2: the predicted value of the luminance increase rate after opening of the tap hole, DELTAt2: the predicted value of the time from the start of tapping to the arriving of the luminance at a peak value). The timing for starting the taping is thereby exactly determined and the number of tapping is decreased without undesirably affecting the blast furnace operation.
