An automatic spraying device for coating chips (6) uses chip supports (15) on horizontal conveyors and vertical conveyors (17) for manipulating chips inside the apparatus. The chip support has a hole in the middle. One side of the chip support is opened in such a way that a C-shaped channel is formed in the chip support of the horizontal conveyor. The vertical conveyor has a jib-like shank. The upper part of the shank (22) of the vertical conveyor is centred below the chip, while the bottom part of the jib-like shank (20) is situated under a point outside the chip support (15). The connecting part (21) of the shank is moved through the channel of the chip support when the chip is raised. As the lifting part of the shank (20) is situated outside the chip support (15), the horizontal conveyor can be moved when the vertical conveyor is in its raised position. The pedestal which holds the chip on the vertical conveyor is provided with arms (16) which diverge upwards at an angle to the horizontal and in so doing lock the chip to the pedestal. IMAGE
