PURPOSE: To efficiently and simply obtain the subject seedling useful for medicines, etc., by forming lateral buds on a specific seedling, selecting lateral buds having a high ability to produce a secondary metabolite from the lateral buds, culturing the buds to again produce the seedlings, and further repeating the processes. ;CONSTITUTION: This method for obtaining a seedling highly producing a secondary metabolite comprises forming lateral buds on the seedling of a Vinca rosea L. plant such as Catharant husoseus var.
