PURPOSE: To provide a valve spring retainer for internal combustion engine made of high density powder sintered titanium alloy having sufficient fatigue strength and its manufacturing method without an HIP. ;CONSTITUTION: A valve spring retainer 4 for an internal combustion engine is provided with a body 7, and at least one of flange parts 5, 6 having circular support surfaces 8, 9 to support a valve spring against energizing force of the valve spring. Moreover, the valve spring retainer 4 is also provided with round parts 21, 22 between a body outer periphery and a supporting surface, or between the outer periphery of one flange part and the supporting surface of the other flange part, is made of (α+β) type titanium alloy by powder sintering, and the whole sintering density is 99% or more the theoretical one, and the density of a circular part near the round part is 99.5% or more of the theoretical one.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1994,JPO&Japio
