PURPOSE:To provide an amount of human body activity operating device, which operates the amount of activity of small movements of a human correctly. CONSTITUTION:The title device is provided with a pyroelectric element 1, a frequency analyzing circuit 8 detecting through zero-crossing detection, a power change analyzing circuit 9, an active condition estimating circuit 10 and an amount of activity converting circuit 11 to analyze the output of the element through frequency analysis within a predetermined division as well as analysis of change of power and estimate the active condition of a man from the informations of frequency and change of power obtained from the result of analysis, then, the estimated active condition is converted into the amount of activity. According to this method, the amount of activity due to the small movement of a man, which has been difficult so far, can be operated correctly and when the result of operation is employed for a living room atmosphere control instrument such as an air-conditioning machine and the like, a comfortable living room atmosphere in accordance with the activity of a man can be provided.
