PURPOSE: To estimate the value of an unknown coefficient concerning an ultrasonic propagating characteristic for each tissue with the method for making the theoretical waveform of a received signal theoretically defined from a coefficient value concerning ultrasonic propagation for each viable tissue in the manner of trial and error coinciding with the real waveform of the received signal. ;CONSTITUTION: A living body 8 is put into a water tank, an X-ray generator 30 and an X-ray detector 32 are arranged on both sides and the theoretical waveform of the received signal is calculated by a theoretical waveform arithmetic part 40 connected to an X-ray measuring part 36 while using the coefficient concerning the ultrasonic propagating characteristic for each tissue. The real waveform is compared with the theoretical waveform by a comparison part 38, the degree of coincidence is calculated and when the degree of coincidence within a fixed value can be provided, a coincidence signal (c) is outputted to the theoretical waveform arithmetic part 40. When the coincidence signal can not be provided, the theoretical waveform arithmetic part 40 varies the coefficient value and calculates the theoretical waveform again. On the other hand, when the coincidence signal can be provided, since it can be considered the combination of coefficient values is optimum, the respective coefficient values are outputted.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1994,JPO&Japio
