PURPOSE: To produce a composite superfine particle in which the superfine particle formed by heating and melting does not contain a metallic superfine particle and consisting of a composite phase in which aluminum nitride and a rare-earth nitride as the sintering assistant are uniformly mixed in a vapor phase and to provide a high-performance sintered compact of the composite superfine particle at a low cost. ;CONSTITUTION: A binary alloy of metallic aluminum and a rare-earth element is heated and melted in a nitrogen atmosphere to produce a superfine particle consisting substantially of a composite phase of the aluminum nitride and rare- earth nitride. A composite superfine particle consisting substantially of a composite phase of the aluminum nitride and rare-earth nitride as the sintering assistant is produced, and the composite superfine particle is sintered to produce the high-performance sintered compact.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1994,JPO&Japio
