NEW WATER-BASED EMULSION, ITS PRODUCTION AND WATERBASED EMULSION COMPOSITION

PURPOSE: To obtain a new emulsion simultaneously satisfying flexibility, adhesiveness, tackiness, dryability and heat resistance, also low in foaming in its coating operation, by emulsifying a rosin-modified phenolic resin with a specific emulsifier. ;CONSTITUTION: The objective water-based emulsion can be obtained by incorporating (A) a rosin-modified phenolic resin, pref. prepared by dissolving in a solvent 100 pts.wt. of such resin 145-160°C in softening point and 45-60 in acid value with, in combination of soft water, (B) 1-10 pts.wt. of a compound of the formula [R is H or lower alkyl; A¹ is 2-3C alkylene; A² is ethylene or propylene; n is an integer of 4-25; X and Y are such that one of them is SO₃M (M is monovalent cation), the other being H], for example, prepared by esterification between the corresponding di-substituted phenyl polyoxyalkylene ether and sulfosuccinic anhydride, followed by emulsification using a high- pressure emulsifying machine and then eliminating the solvent at reduced pressures. The other objective water-based emulsion composition is such as to be incorporated with 5-50 pts.wt,, on a solid basis, of the above emulsion.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1994,JPO&Japio
