Polarization sensing element and projection type Liquid Crystal Display

摘要

PURPOSE:To provide the polarized light converting element which is arranged between a light source and an irradiated surface and performs efficient polarized light conversion and the projection type liquid crystal display device which uses this polarized light converting element. CONSTITUTION:This device is equipped with a polarized light separating means 2 which separates the unpolarized light from the light source into two linear polarized light components, 1st and 2nd liquid crystal plates 4 and 3 which rotate the planes of polarization of the two separated linear polarized light components, a total reflecting mirror 5 which symmetrically inverts one of the planes of polarization, and a saw-tooth transparent refracting plate 6 which refracts the linear polarized light component obtained through the liquid crystal plates 4 and 3 and total reflecting mirror 5.
