METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE START HEAD AND START HEAD MANUFACTURED WITH THIS METHOD

PURPOSE: To assemble a start head easily by automatic means. ;CONSTITUTION: For the purpose of manufacturing a start head 10 comprising a start pinion, a drive sleeve 24, two half rings 28 and a fixed cap 32, a plurality of small protrusions 42 in alignment with a small inclined surface 40 are formed by impacting a material onto the inner side of the fixed cap 32 by forming a plurality of small inclined surfaces 40 on the outer periphery of the fixed cap 32. Subassembly is completed by positioning the start pinion 12 with respect to the drive sleeve 24 and positioning the two half rings 28 with respect to the drive sleeve 24. The fixed cap 32 is positioned on the subassembly. The fixed cap 32 is deformed to force a portion of the half ring 28 to be bitten by the small protrusion 42.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1994,JPO
