PURPOSE: To surely identify the spike-like clutter from the sea surface and a small water surface target by comparing the amplitudes of the reflected wave received signals before and after the switching of the polarization direction of transmission pulses. ;CONSTITUTION: An antenna device 1 switches the polarization direction of transmission pulses in turn with a polarization switching circuit 12, transmits the preceding transmission pulse at the horizontal polarization, and transmits the next transmission pulse at the vertical polarization. The reflected signal from the sea surface is received by the antenna 11, the amplitude level is detected by a receiving circuit 32 and converted into the digital signal by an A/D converter circuit 41, then a larger amplitude constituent is extracted by an inter-scan correlating circuit 42, and it is stored in a sweep memory circuit 43. A target/clutter identifying circuit 44 compares the detection signal directly fed from the circuit 41 with the stored 43 detection signal of the preceding transmission pulse and identifies a target and the sea surface clutter from the amplitude difference. A target detecting circuit 45 suppresses the sea surface clutter and extracts only the target signal in reference to the circuit 44 when the correlation processing circuit 42 detects a large amplitude constituent.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1994,JPO
