PURPOSE: To reject unnecessary questions to shorten the time required for docter's question by using relations of one symptom to the other symptoms to derive another symptom at the time of input of one of preliminarily arranged symptoms. ;CONSTITUTION: This method consists of a fault analysis means flow 1, a conclusion discrimination processing part 2, a picture display part 3, an output device 4, a symptom input device 5, a mutual relation table 6 which indicates mutual relations between an inputted symptom and the other symptoms related to inputted information, a symptom input necessary/unnecessary discrimination part 7 which discriminates whether it is necessary for a user to input symptoms or not, and a symptom derivation processing part 8 which derives symptoms based on the discrimination result of the symptom input necessary/unnecessary discrimination part 7 and the mutual relation table 6. The mutual relation table 6 is referred with respect to one symptom solution inputted by the user to derive a solution related to this symptom solution. If this derived solution meets the AND condition of all symptoms with respect to a conclusion, the conclusion is automatically discriminated without requesting the user to input another symptom solution again.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1994,JPO
