PURPOSE: To obtain the steel by adding specific amounts of Ti, Nb, and V to a lowC-N added steel where the contents of C and N are specified and forming a steel with a specific composition. ;CONSTITUTION: This austenitic stainless steel has a composition consisting of, by weight, 0.04% or less C, 1.0% or less Si, 3.0% or less Mn, 0.02-0.08% P, 8.0-14.0% Ni, 15.0-25.0% Cr, 0.04% or less Al, 0.15% or less N, further one or more kinds among 0.4% or less Ti, 0.2% or less Nb, and 0.6% or less V, and the balance Fe. It is preferable to further incorporate 3.0% or less Mo and/or 5.0% or less W into this steel. This steel is a steel prepared by adding, in order to precipitate stable nitrides, Ti, Nb, and V to a lowC-N added steel where C content is limited to inhibit the precipitation of carbides adversely affecting creep rupture characteristics and also N having high solubility in Ni-Cr austenitic steel is incorporated.
