PURPOSE: To reduce a charge for fuel for a smelting furnace by a method wherein the smelting furnace is operated by the fuel of dry distillation gas obtained by carbonizing macromolecular waste obtained nearly free of charge. ;CONSTITUTION: Macromolecular waste P, such as waste tires and the like for example, is thrown into a dry distillation furnace 2. Next, the macromolecular waste P is ignited while supplying air, necessary for the combustion of the macromolecular waste P, by a primary fan B2. As a result, a combustion belt is formed in the lower part of the furnace 2 while high-temperature gas, containing combustible substances, such as hydrocarbon compound, carbon monoxide or the like, and small amount of free carbon, is generated in the combustion belt. The high-temperature gas is supplied to the burner 11 of the smelting furnace 1 through a supplying tube 3 and is mixed with air from a primary fan B1, then, is burnt. The crucible 10 of the smelting furnace 1 is heated by the combustion heat and nonferrous metal ingots in the crucible 10 is molten whereby molten metal M is obtained. According to this method, the charge of fuel for the smelting furnace 1 can be reduced.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1994,JPO&Japio
