PURPOSE: To perform excellent grinding of a work having a cavity formed therein by providing a plurality of press members to press a resilient member and a press control means to arbitrarily control the press pressure of the press member. ;CONSTITUTION: A grinding work is applied on a work 17 fed by means of a feed belt in a state to be pressed by a resilient member 7 arranged on the back side of a sanding belt 6 and in the direction of the width of the sanding belt 6. In this case, a work 17 has a cavity formed therein. The press forces of a plurality of press members 10 are controlled by a press control means C so that the press pressure of the press member 10 exerted on the sanding belt 6 in a position, corresponding to a part having the cavity formed therein, through the resilient member 7 is increased to a value higher than the press force of the press member 10 exerted on the sanding belt 6 in a position corresponding to a part brought into a solid state.
