PURPOSE: To make it possible to measure the accurate value for protruding amount of an abrasive grain in a short time by measuring the average roughness of the central line and the height of the ridge of the central line on the surface of a super-abrasive-grain grinding wheel with a probe-type surface roughness meter, and computing the average value of the data. ;CONSTITUTION: The average roughnesses of the central lines and the heights of the ridges of the central lines on the surface of a super-abrasive-grain grinding wheel at the specified measuring length at 10 or more measuring places of the super-abrasive-grain grinding wheel are measured with a probe-type surface roughness meter having the probe, whose length from the radius of the tip of the probe is 5μm or less. The average value of the data of the average roughness of the central lines and the average value of the heights of the ridges of the central lines are computed. The value of the sum of the average value of the data of the average roughnesses of the central lines and the average value of the data of the ridges of the central lines is obtained as the protruding amount of the abrasive grain. Thus, the accurate value of the protruding amount of the abrasive grain representing the surface state along the entire super-abrasive-grain grinding wheel to be measured is obtained.
