PURPOSE: To obtain a roll used for the machine for continuously casting thin metal strips between two rolls or on one roll having at least one roll whose surface which comes into contact with a cast metal has a roughness different in both end zones of the roll in the vicinity of lateral ends of the roll and in the central zone. CONSTITUTION: The roughness of the surface of a roll varies in a continuous manner along any generatrix of the roll. The roughness of the both end zones 4, 5 is larger than the roughness of the central zone 6. The roll is roughned by knurling or cutting.
