PURPOSE: To produce hydrated amorphous ferric oxide particle powder on an industrial scale by hydrolyzing jarosite produced from ferrous sulfate suitable as an adsorbent for sulfur oxides, hydrogen sulfide, nitrogen oxides, etc., in air or in a gas or as a deodorant, catalyst, etc. ;CONSTITUTION: A mixture of an aqueous solution of ferrous sulfate, an aqueous solution of an alkali metal sulfate or ammonium sulfate and an aqueous solution of sulfuric acid is oxidized and the obtained jarosite particles are washed and suspended in water. The aqueous suspension is incorporated with an aqueous solution of an alkali hydroxide or aqueous solution of ammonia and stirred under heating to form hydrated amorphous ferric oxide particles. The particles are separated by filtration, washed and dried to obtain the objective hydrated amorphous ferric oxide particle powder having an average particle diameter of 3-30μm, a BET specific surface area of 150-300m2/g and a bulk density of 0.7-1.1g/mL.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1994,JPO&Japio
