PURPOSE: To increase the high temp. tensile strength and fracture strength of a composite structure and to evade its deterioration caused by acids by embedding a niobium base metal having high strength but low in oxidation resistance into a niobium base matrix metal low in strength but having high oxidation resistance. ;CONSTITUTION: Many ductility reinforcement strands of a niobium base alloy of a body-centered cubic crystal form are distributed into a matrix alloy having the formula of, by atomic%, Nb-Ti3148-A18-21. This reinforcement strands are present at least by 5 vol.%. Furthermore, the reinforcement ratio R is regulated to 50 to 100. The outermost edge part of this composite structure is composed of the matrix alloy only. The niobium base reinforcing alloy is WC 3009 or AS-30. This composite is used in the case the temp. is up to 1400°C, and each strand has at least 20 μm thickness.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1994,JPO
