PURPOSE: To provide a compact, inexpensive, and reliable carbon dioxide gas sensor element and a method for measuring carbon dioxide gas concentration using the carbon dioxide gas sensor element. ;CONSTITUTION: An element body 1 of carbon dioxide sensor element is constituted by a proton conductive ceramic with a composition which is expressed by a general expression AB_1-xB'_xO_3-y (0.0≤x≤0.50), where A is at least one type or the combination of Ca, Sr, and Ba, B is at least one type or the combination of Ce, Zr, and Hf, and B' is at least one type or the combination of Sc, Y, La, lanthanide element, Al, Ga, In, Zn, Bi, and Mg. Using the carbon dioxide gas sensor element and by the chemical mutual operation between proton conductive ceramic and carbon dioxide gas, the electrical resistance of the proton conductive ceramic is changed and the carbon dioxide gas concentration is detected according to the change in electrical resistance.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1994,JPO&Japio
