PURPOSE: To obtain fatty acid polyol polyether sulfosuccinates having improved tolerance by skin and eye mucosa and good cleaning and foaming properties. ;CONSTITUTION: The compound of formula I [R is 7-21C alkyl or alkylene; R1 is H or CO-R; R2 is H, CO-CH(SO3-M+)-CH2-COO-M+; A is 2-3C alkylene; a, b, c and d are each 0 to 5 and a+b+c.e+d=2 to 25; e is 1 to 3; M+ is alkaline metal cation or ammonium ion] is obtained by reacting a polyol compound of formula II with an alkylene oxide at molar ratio of the former vs. the latter being 5 to 20 in the presence of a basic catalyst at 120 to 180°C and at the pressure of up to 4 bar to obtain a compound of formula III, reacting it in the presence of an aliphatic acid (ester) and a catalyst at 120 to 180°C, reacting the resulting compound of formula IV with a maleic anhydride at 60 to 80°C to form a semi-ester and subsequently sulfonating the resulting compound with a sodium sulfite aqueous solution.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1994,JPO
