PURPOSE:To improve the coefficient of air utilization of the upper part of a piston and improve the combustion without. increasing the volume of the main combustion chamber of a vortex chamber type diesel engine. CONSTITUTION:The bottom 11 of a main combustion chamber 5 is formed in a surface having no inclination based on the top surface of a piston, and the depth of a connection part 8 between diffusion parts 1a and 1b is set to a sufficient value. The width of the bottom 11 is set to a value larger than the width of a guide groove 7, and wall surfaces 12a and 12b through which the bottom 11 is coupled to the outer peripheries of the diffusion parts 1a and 1b is formed in a slope.
