PURPOSE: To reduce the circuit scale with respect to the linear PCM signal compression circuit, the nonlinear PCM signal expansion circuit and the level attenuation circuit using these circuits. ;CONSTITUTION: A segment representative value signal formed by excluding a prescribed number of low-order bits from a segment signal is outputted from a segment representative value output circuit 4 in response to the segment signal from an adjustment circuit 2, and a step width signal formed by excluding a prescribed number of low-order bits from a step signal is outputted from a step width output circuit 6 in response to the segment representative value signal. The system is featured that a linear PCM signal comprising a sign bit signal outputted from the adjustment circuit 2 and comprising the sum of the segment representative value signal and the step width signal from an adder circuit 8 is outputted.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1994,JPO&Japio
