PRODUCTION OF HIGH-PURITY TUNGSTEN OR MOLYBDENUM POWDER

PURPOSE: To efficiently produce a high-purity W powder by allowing WO₂ to react with a halide to form the ionic halide which is hydrolyzed to WO₃ and then reducing the WO₃. ;CONSTITUTION: A WO₂ powder (or MoO₂ powder) is allowed to react with a halogen (e.g., Cl₂) to form the oxyhalide of W, and the oxyhalide is heated and volatilized to separate and remove the impurities contained. At this time, the oxyhalide is formed under non-forced fluidization and in an inclined reaction system. The obtained oxyhalide is then hydrolyzed at about 220°C to WO₃, and the WO₃ is reduced to produce a W powder.
