PURPOSE: To obtain a composite material excellent in wear resistance of the surface parallel to L direction and heat resistance by containing a platy Al oxide grain in Al base. ;CONSTITUTION: A composite material is formed by containing a platy Al oxide grain of about 5-30wt.% weight in Al or Al base alloy. As the platy oxide grain, for example, there is a platy alumina (α-Al2O3) or platy bainite grain. Also, the platy alumina is preferably where its crystal system is hexagonal, and five in which a specific crystal face is grown platy and the grain size is approximately ≥2.0μm and its thickness is approximately ≤0.1μm. When the Al oxide grain is extruded with mixing Al (alloy) powder, the plate face is oriented in parallel with the extruding direction (L direction) improving the wear resistance and tensile strength of the surface parallel with L direction.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1994,JPO&Japio
