The invention relates to an apparatus by means of which the displacement of a moving object such as a pile during pile-driving can be measured. This involves the object being provided with a retroreflective disc and being illuminated by a laser. The movement is converted into a digital signal and further processed by means of a computer. The apparatus is characterized by the measurement of the movement without contact between moving object and measuring apparatus.
