An aqueous composition or final product containing thymol comprises sodium chloride and menthol lactate for masking the unpleasantly medicinal flavor of thymol, an essential oil with antimicrobial properties. In particular, the invention describes an embodiment wherein the ratio of sodium chloride to thymol is about 7.8 to 1 and the ratio of menthyl lactate to thymol is about 0.3 to 1.
