The large regulating range fibre-optic modulator incorporates a wire which emits heat when fed with electrical current from a regulator device, and an optical fibre in which the phase is to be modulated. The optical fibre and the heat wire are wound in direct vicinity of one another to form a coil, so that heat from the heat wire can activate the fibre. The Mach-Zehnder interferometer is provided with a rapid fibre-optic phase modulator (9) with limited regulating range, and the modulator (10) with a very large regulating range and limited quickness, in size amounting to a few Hz.
