Feather bulking for construction of textile industry

To process outer feathers which have been bulked and given an increased vol., they are prepd. according to application and are reduced in size by sorting during the bulking stage. Only feathers with a length of less than 10mm are allowed to leave the redn. zone, so that outer feathers have the handle and performance of down feathers. During the processing, the feathers are filtered in at least one stage for moisture to be removed and dried to give a residual moisture content of less than 12%. In at least one stage, the feathers are reduced to a length of 11-20mm and then treated with a solvent pref. tenside with a neutral action and/or preservatives pref. with chlorogene or quat. ammonium bases and then the solvent and/or preservatives are forced out.
